Some so-called artistic stuff

Mandelbrot set In this week-end, wondering without targets in the Great Net, I hit a small piece of code, really very amusing and also a little bit mesmerizing! You all know what is a fractal, but we usually read something about Mandelbrot and Julia sets, everyone has seen them somewhere. But we don't know exactly how the rest of extremely complex, 3D, colored, weird fractals are built. Navigating in the deviantART website, I saw a lot of them and also some tutorial, that whets my appetite about creating these colorful, somehow hypnotizing stuff.

So I found Apophysis, the application that you need if you want to create fractals (or "flames", as they call them). The simplest way is by downloading the application, install it and then navigate among the random generated flames. You can adjust something, like colors, parameters, and so on. But after this, you can also create from scratch, following the tutorias you can find on the Great Net.

Is this art? I think it is, maybe not these tests of mine below. You can click on the thumbnails to see a bigger version (thanks to the beautiful phpThumb and lightbox snippets).

Apophysis can be downloaded from its webpage. Current stable version is 2.02, but I downloaded also the 2.05 and it works well, adding very interesting functionalities (avoid to use the multithreaded option, anyway, since it doesn't work). There are some links to the tutorials in the wiki tutorial page.

In the deviantART website, you will find a HUGE amount of all kinds of art, and also some very beautiful flames rendered with Apophysis.
